The MIDP and the TIDPs are how an ISO 19650 project plans who delivers which information, when. A TIDP is one task team's plan; the MIDP is all of them put together. Here's what goes in each, who owns them and how to keep them from going stale.
What is a TIDP?
A task information delivery plan (TIDP) is one task team's list of the information containers it will deliver - models, drawings, schedules, reports - each with its name, its level of information need, its due date and who produces it. Every task team (the architect, the structural engineer, each specialist subcontractor) writes its own.
What is a MIDP?
The master information delivery plan (MIDP) brings every TIDP together into one plan for the whole delivery team. The lead appointed party owns it, checks the TIDPs line up (no gaps, no clashing dates, the right order of dependencies) and agrees it with the appointing party.
| TIDP | MIDP | |
|---|---|---|
| Who owns it | Each task team | The lead appointed party |
| What it covers | One team's deliverables | Every team's deliverables, in order |
| Built from | The responsibility matrix and the information requirements | All the TIDPs |
| When | Before mobilisation, then kept up to date | Agreed after appointment, then kept up to date |
What goes on each line
- The container name (following the project's naming convention)
- A title and description
- The level of information need - what it must contain
- Who produces it and who it depends on
- The milestone and date it's due
- Its estimated production time
Why most MIDPs go stale
The usual MIDP is a spreadsheet stitched together from a dozen TIDP spreadsheets the week before a deadline - and out of date the week after. Dates move, teams change, and nobody re-sends their TIDP. The information manager becomes the reminder system.
A MIDP that stays live
Build the TIDPs from the scope instead of retyping them: each task team sees the deliverables it's responsible for, agrees them, and the MIDP is simply everyone's TIDPs in one view. When a date moves, the plan moves; when something's late, the plan does the chasing. In Plannerly, reminders go to everyone in the app 7 days before a task starts, 3 days before it's due and when it's overdue, and you can adjust them.
Run the MIDP without chasing task teams shows the whole job step by step, and the Help Center shows how to create a MIDP in Plannerly.
