Use case - Company standards

Make your company standard the start of every project

A company BIM standard is your best BEP, information requirements and scope, kept as templates. In Plannerly you keep them in one template project and start every new project from it, with the project's details filled in. When you improve the standard, projects that used it are offered the update.

Free plan, no card. Start from Plannerly's ISO 19650 templates, in your language.

The problem

Every project starts from a copy of the last one

Sound familiar?

Your best BEP is in a folder from two jobs ago

So the next project starts as a copy. You find and replace the client's name, miss three, and carry the old mistakes forward. When you improve the standard, the twenty live copies never hear about it.

How it works

How to turn your best project into the start of every project

  1. Put your best version in one place

Start a template project and bring in your best BEP, EIR and requirements: from Plannerly's ISO 19650 templates, in your language, or pasted from your Word documents. Then make the wording yours.

One template project that is your standard
  2. Let project details fill themselves

Put SmartFields where each project's details go - project name, client, version, discipline - and add your scope structure with its classifications, information requirements and responsibilities.

No find-and-replace on a new job
  3. Start each new project from it

In a new project, open the Library, pick your template project and add whole documents, or drag in only the sections and scope folders you need, with their teams, milestones and requirements.

Every project starts from your best version
  4. Keep every project up to date

When you improve the template, each section that came from it shows the update. Whoever runs the project compares the two versions, then takes it, merges it by hand or ignores it.

    Improvements offered, never forced

How To Create Professional Project Documents (like EIR, PIR, BEP)

Questions

Company standards: your questions, answered

What is a company BIM standard?
Your organisation's agreed way of doing information management: the documents you issue (BEP, EIR, OIR, responsibility matrix), how you name and structure information, and the requirements you ask for. Under ISO 19650 it's what lets you deliver the same quality on every project, and what an auditor asks to see. A standard that lives in old project folders isn't one: it needs a single home and a way to reach every new project. How to get ISO 19650 compliant, and the UK BIM Framework guidance on the information management function.
How do I make a BEP template in Plannerly?
Create a dedicated template project and write your best BEP there, or start from Plannerly's ISO 19650 BEP template and make the wording yours. Put SmartFields where project details go, so they fill in on each new project. Then start every new project's BEP from it through the Library. The BEP template.
Are Plannerly's ISO 19650 templates free?
Yes. The ISO 19650 templates in the Library - OIR, PIR, EIR, AIR, pre- and post-appointment BEP, responsibility matrix, MIDP and more - come with every Plannerly account, the Free plan included, and are available in several languages. The templates in your language.
Can I duplicate a project in Plannerly?
There's no duplicate button, on purpose: copying a whole project carries its old dates, names and mistakes with it. Instead, open the Library in Docs or Scope, pick the earlier project or your template project, and bring in only the documents, sections and scope folders you need. The source stays untouched. Why templates beat duplicates.
What happens to live projects when I update the standard?
Nothing changes behind their backs. A section that came from your template shows that its source has been updated. Whoever runs the project compares the two, then takes the update, merges it by hand or ignores it. How source updates work.
What are SmartFields?
Placeholders for project details - project name, client, version, discipline, date and custom fields of your own - that fill themselves in when a document is used in a project. They replace find-and-replace, and when a project already has a value, an imported document picks it up. SmartFields explained.
Can I keep my standards in my own language?
Yes. Plannerly's ISO 19650 templates come in several languages, translated and reviewed with local experts, and your own templates are in whatever language you write them. You can also change the language of the interface, the Library and your content. Language settings.
Does a company standard make us ISO 19650 compliant?
It's most of the work, but compliance is shown in an audit by an accredited certification body. A standard that every project actually starts from is the evidence auditors look for. Our 60-day programme covers the gap analysis, training and audit preparation, and the ISO 19650 for Companies course is free.
Who can edit the standard?
On Free, you're the editor and everyone you invite can view it and comment. On Pro, editors and viewers are unlimited, so your whole BIM team can maintain the standard together. Company adds custom roles and access controls, for central standards across an organisation. Compare plans.
Can I start my clients' projects from my templates?
Yes. Any project or template you're linked to appears in your Library, so you can start each client project from your own template project and keep the client's data in the client's project. Your own branding on everything you export is part of Pro. Importing from templates.
