Lesson 26 of 40

Hand out your requirements as an IDS file

This video shows you how to export your requirements as an IDS file, so everyone checks models against the list you agreed, in whatever tool they use.

What you'll do

  1. In Scope, open Export, then IDS Specifications.
  2. Filter to what one team needs, such as a milestone or a requirement type.
  3. Check the IFC Version. It starts on IFC4.
  4. Name the file and select Create.
  5. Find the IDS file in File Manager, ready for any tool that reads IDS.

Why it matters

A checker working from a different list will happily pass the wrong things. IDS is an open standard, so one agreed list works everywhere. You need the Manage Docs permission, and there is no plan restriction. Make one file per team or milestone if that helps them.

Common questions

Which IFC version should I pick?

The one your checking tool expects. IFC4 is the default; IFC2X3, IFC4.3 and IFC4.4 are available.

Can I export one milestone only?

Yes. Choose the milestone under Filters before you select Create.
