Lesson 9 of 40

Write once with SmartFields

This video shows how to put your client's name in a BIM Execution Plan as a SmartField, so one change updates every document.

What you'll do

  1. Select the client's name in the text and choose Insert SmartField.
  2. Pick Client Name, which reads from the project's details, and select Save & close.
  3. When Plannerly offers to replace the other matches, choose This document or All documents in this project.
  4. Click the SmartField, type the new value and save.

Why it matters

Information defined once and reused means your documents cannot disagree with each other. No more hunting for the old name in forty places.

Common questions

Why didn't Plannerly offer to replace the other matches?

The offer needs the SmartField's value to match the selected text exactly. Check the client name in the project's details.

Who can change a SmartField?

People with Manage SmartFields on their project role, usually project managers.
